Introducing The District 3 Dispatch

Updates on Fitchburg happenings from Alder Logan Reigstad

Welcome to the first edition of The District 3 Dispatch!

This email newsletter will share regular updates on what’s happening at City Hall and ways you can connect with the community. There’s a lot of great work that happens behind the scenes; I want to put the spotlight on how our city staff and elected officials are working on your behalf to make Fitchburg a better place to live, work, and play.

While this newsletter will mainly focus on District 3, my goal is to make this a valuable resource for folks all across Fitchburg. Please tell your friends and neighbors to subscribe at LoganReigstad.com.

If you’d like to see something included, or if I can be of assistance as your alder, feel free to email me at Logan.Reigstad@FitchburgWI.Gov. I’d love to hear from you about ways to improve communication and about your priorities for our city moving forward.

Yours in service,

-Logan

What’s “Growing” On

Here’s what’s being built in Fitchburg.

  • The first units in the Inspiration at Swan Creek development off East Cheryl Parkway are under construction. When finished, this project will consist of 57 single-family and duplex units.

  • The Olive Tree Residences development at the corner of Rimrock Road and Maloney Drive is moving through the city approval process. It proposes building 20 townhomes and duplex units on a vacant lot. If approved, construction is expected to begin this summer.

  • Work on the new 600,000-gallon Water Tower D at the Highway 14/Lacy Road interchange will begin this spring. The project is expected to take roughly a year to complete.

  • Near Target and Hy-Vee, the Jamestown Quarry development is under construction. In addition to an apartment building along Fitchrona Road, plans call for a McDonald’s, Crew Car Wash, Chick-fil-A, and Chase Bank facing McKee Road (with driveways on a new private street). Find out more in this interview on FACTv.

  • MG&E will be building a new solar facility behind the Public Works building along Fish Hatchery/Whalen roads. Read more from Channel 3000.

Working For You

Here’s how city staff and elected officials are working on your behalf to make our city a better place.

At our May 13 meeting, the Common Council adopted a Vision Zero resolution that puts our city on a path toward eliminating deaths and serious injuries on our roads. The idea is both simple and a fundamental shift in thinking. It means that we're not content with the status quo. It means that we will no longer accept that fatal crashes are inevitable. It means that we're committed to making our infrastructure more forgiving of human error. Our city has now joined a growing number of communities that have said enough is enough and that it's time to put safety and well-being ahead of convenience. Read more from the Fitchburg Star.

Also at our May 13 meeting, the Common Council approved a resolution providing $40,000 to replace the play structure at Rimrock Park in Southdale. That work will happen later this year.

*

Syene Road construction is underway. Visit the project page on the city’s website for more details, and sign up for weekly updates.

To help with traffic concerns along the detour route at Lacy Road and Central Park Place, city staff put up speed boards to slow drivers down. Some of the median trees were trimmed and/or cut down to improve visibility. Our city’s transportation engineer is also working with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to review possible changes to the Highway 14 and Lacy Road interchange.

Roughly 5 miles of city streets will be resurfaced this year, mostly on the west side of the city. For a full list, click/tap here.

*

Expect lane closures on northbound Fish Hatchery Road between High Ridge Trail and Bowman Drive for the next month or so due to a water main installation. Find more info here.

*

More than 250 new trees will be planted around the city this spring. District 3 neighborhoods that will see new trees planted are The Addison Apartments (5), Fahey Fields (7), Fitchburg Townhomes (13), Highfield Reserve (26), Post Rd. (3), Stanley Park Place (Arlo Apartments) (4), Swan Creek (2), Terravessa (46), and Waterford Glen (1). For a full list of locations, click/tap here.

*

For Arbor Day, volunteers (including yours truly) planted trees at the Sunnyside Dog Park and Huegel Jamestown Park.

One Last Thing…

The warmer weather means more people are out walking and biking on our wonderful trail network. Make sure you yield to pedestrians and give cyclists on the road at least three feet of space – it’s not just Midwest nice; it’s the law!
